Most of us are parents or see parents struggle to get kids making healthy food choices. The immediate taste and all those ads and supermarket specials grab kids’ attention so much more than messages about the long term harm.

The evidence is clear – eating habits are formed early, and diets high in processed food with high sugar, fat and salt contents have multiple health consequences later on.

Training children to enjoy more nutritious food while there is an abundance of unhealthy food all around us is frequently an uphill battle.

Traditional programs just give information and do not lead to behaviour change. A programme in schools that engages with children is urgently needed.

Once children are on board and motivated, and parents and kids are aiming for the same goals, lunch boxes and meals become enjoyable and rewarding rather than a battle ground.

Happy Healthy Kidz Australia is a not-for-profit charity that has spent the last five years trying to turn around growing childhood obesity. It is unique in supporting the delivery of the Eat Smart B Active Program – using arts and music, and bringing a program into school that teaches kids about nutrition and exercise, then creating challenges to make healthier changes to their lunch boxes and level of physical activity. It uses technology to measure changes – things we see work with children. Its impact is measurable and evidence-based.

These programs cost money, but governments give novel preventative projects like this low priority. We need to get donations, grants and collaborators to increase the reach and impact of this amazing venture.

A team of volunteers has been doing a lot of hard work, but we need money to pay for a professional website designer. Many of our initiatives to spread Happy Health Kidz is dependent on a really good website.

It really is a small amount of money to do a lot of great things. So we ask for your donation and to spread this to all your contacts. All donations over $2 are 100% tax deductible.
